>What is traditionally known as a cosmetic beauty treatment for the finger nails has departed from tradition and it has developed into a spin-off industry of art form.

As with the etymology of its given name, manicure, it is derived from the Latin “manus” for hand and “cura” for care.

I was at my regular manicurist just before mid-day today and it is a pretty sight to behold, gazing at the finished pieces of her handicraft, just like it is in these pictures below.

In its traditional form, manicure would entail a routine of filing, shaping of the free edge, treatments. It would also include a massage of the hand, soaking with a softening substance and applying a lotion.

Apart from the therapeutic advantages, manicure has been given an aesthetic appeal by adding artificial nail tips, artificial nail gels and beautification of the nails is applied by means of painting designs on the nails. In some cases decals and costume jewelry may be added on request.

And what has that done? It has sprung another fashion into being.
