>Wooden footwear or clogs are they are better known are a fast disappearing item. Two kinds that immediately come to my mind are the Chinese clogs and the Dutch clogs.
The Chinese clogs were mostly painted in red. Mostly worn as casual footwear inside the house, it could be found in the kitchen and inside the bathroom/poo room.
The Chinese clogs also had its significance at Chinese Weddings as they were part of the list of gifts given to the newly weds.
It was never a popular footwear because one made a clatter while walking with the pair of clogs and the feet have been known to slip right off their smooth surface.
Better known internationally are the Dutch wooden clogs. The image of the Dutch clogs is unmistakable and is an icon to represent the Dutch homeland.
Designed more befitting for the human feet than the Chinese counterpart, these Dutch clogs have become a tourist’s souvenir collection.
With the appearance of rubber “Japanese” slippers, these wooden shoes have now become an item of antiquity.
